Complaints of the refugees from Africa developed into clashes with police on Monday in Apulia in the Southern part of Italy. The refugees, who live in temporary shelters and are mainly from Africa, closed the highway and the railway, ITAR-TASS reports quoting Italian press.
Police arrived at the scene but was attacked by the refugees. Several dozens of people especially law enforcement agents were injured. Police cars also crashed. Immigrants are armed with stones and woods and continue to block part of the railway.
Thousands of immigrants migrated to Italy from Northern Africa since February. Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi called the flow of the refugees “a migration tsunami” and asked aid from European Union.
