The police have deployed a large number of forces in Freedom Square in downtown Yerevan.

Artur Vanetsyan—the leader of the opposition "With Honor" Faction of the National Assembly and chairman of the opposition Homeland party of Armenia—, who has announced a sit-in at the square, told reporters that he attributed the aforesaid to their fears.

"I do not know what they are afraid of," he said.

According to him, the engagement of the youth is very important.

"I consider the engagement of young people the main, most important part of our work. If the youth stand up and start fighting for their rights, no one will be able to stop them," Vanetsyan said.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that Artur Vanetsyan announced on April 17 the start of protests—and with no term or end—at Freedom Square in downtown Yerevan. Sometime thereafter, Nver Kirakosyan and Artur Avagyan—two participants of the 44-day Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war in the fall of 2020—announced an indefinite hunger strike, and they came to Freedom Square Monday morning to start this hunger strike.
