The Israeli Defense Minister authorized the supply of helmets and vests to the Ukrainian rescue services after talking with his Ukrainian counterpart, Reuters reports.

In light of the request from the Ukrainian side, Israel will provide protective equipment for the needs of Ukrainian rescuers and emergency services, the Ukrainian embassy in Israel said in a statement, echoing that of an Israeli official.

Both Israeli and Ukrainian officials noted that the cargo was intended for rescue services and civil organizations.

Ukraine has previously expressed frustration at Israel's refusal to provide what it sees as defensive aid against Russia. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Israel's balanced and responsible approach allows it to be a credible player, one of the few who can communicate directly with both sides and provide assistance as needed.
