Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that rich countries should repair the damage done to the nature of developing countries, according to the Philippine News Agency.

Duterte is sure that poor countries, including the Philippines, are suffering from the effects of climate change, which is most affected by developed countries that emit the most carbon into the atmosphere. He demanded compensation from them for not fulfilling their obligations under climate agreements, provoking natural disasters with greenhouse gas emissions, and not suffering from them themselves.

The Pacific leader added that the Philippines, which is hit by about 20 typhoons every year, is one of the countries most at risk from the consequences of the climate crisis.

Duterte believes that climate change will remain a problem for future generations if greenhouse gas emissions cannot be eliminated. He expressed the hope that the successor, who will take his place in a few weeks, will better cope with this task.
