YEREVAN. - We have done the impossible- we forced the authorities into negotiations on democratic rule in Armenia, said the Coordinator for oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) Central Office Levon Zurabyan at ANC rally on Tuesday.
’’Provided that the Opposition managed to end the suppressions and sit at a table of negotiations with the authorities, power change seams only a matter of months,’’ he said.
According to Zurabyan, ANC achieved two major goals in two dialogue sessions.
’’The first meeting satisfied our foremost demand - the negotiating group should represent the executive branch and [Armenian President] Serzh Sargsyan himself. At the second meeting the authorities officially agreed to include the issue of the formation of legitimate authorities through snap elections into the agenda. Earlier this point has been ardently disputed,” he stressed.
Levon Zurabyan pointed out two possible developments for the current situation.
“The first is that the authorities would give an acute estimation for the current realities and realize the advantage of a compromise over broader repressions. The second is that the authorities would go for a compromise when they see how many people actually stand behind the ANC. In this case they will try to discredit us. Political parties and media are already largely involved in this strategy,” Zurabyan added.
He advised the authorities not to play with the patience of people, or they may see a wave of protest never witnessed before.
’’At that time nobody will need the concessions you make,’’ concluded Zurabyan .
