200 acres of forest is burning in the west of Cuba in Pinar Del Rio state's Minas de Matambre region, Prensa Latina agency reported referring to the local fire services.

The windy weather contributes to the spread of the fire and at the current moment the situation is out of control because of the forest's thickness.  Also there is no information about victims.

In march there were fires in the San Juan Martines region on over 247 acres of forest and   this is the second big fire this year in the west of the republic.

Pinar Del Rio state is considered to be the second heavily forested area in Cuba.

According to firefighters, 94 percent of fires are caused by people.
