Sweden has not yet made a decision regarding NATO membership, said Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde.

The discussion of this issue in the parliament is still ongoing and the process of joining the bloc differs from the Finnish one, the Finnish television channel MTV quotes the minister. So she commented on the question of whether Stockholm plans to apply to NATO at the same time as Helsinki.

Linde noted that preliminary work on the prospects for joining the alliance will be completed in Sweden by May 13. That is, until the date of the "possible filing" by Stockholm of the country's official application to join NATO. The foreign minister also said that "Finland's decision to join the bloc has greatly influenced the Swedish" point of view on the issue.

At the beginning of April, the discussion about the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO intensified. The main members of the alliance supported this prospect. In Finland, a majority of members of parliament have already spoken out in favor of joining the bloc. In addition, about 65% of the country's residents also positively assess this prospect, according to the results of a survey published on April 28 commissioned by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. In Sweden, political discussions on this matter are currently ongoing, Stockholm sees and tries to assess the risks and problematic aspects of joining.

According to the American side, the issue of admitting Finland and Sweden to NATO may be considered at the next summit of the alliance in Spain on June 29-30.
