The Georgian government has completed the first part of the questionnaire, which is necessary for granting the country the status of an EU candidate, on May 2 it will be handed over to the European Commission, Georgian Foreign Minister Illia Darchiashvili said at a briefing on Friday.

The first part of the questionnaire was prepared with the very active participation of all state bodies, a lot of work has been done. And the Georgian government will hand over this part to the European Commission on Monday, the minister said.

According to him, the second part of the questionnaire is more technical and specific, there are about 2,300 questions in this document, work on filling it out continues.

Initially, the Georgian authorities planned to apply for EU membership in 2024, but Tbilisi decided to speed up the process. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili signed an application for granting the country the status of an EU candidate on March 3.
