The Japanese government considers South Korea's research activities in the area of ​​the disputed Takeshima Islands in the Sea of ​​Japan unacceptable and calls on Seoul to stop it, Secretary General of the Cabinet Hirokazu Matsuno noted.

According to the Japanese side, the South Korean ship was in the area of ​​the Takeshima Islands for two days and, presumably, carried out underwater surveys and other studies.

Takeshima is a group of small islands with a total area of ​​0.188 sq. km, located east of the Korean Peninsula. These uninhabited rocky areas became the subject of international dispute after 1945, when Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule. Now the islands are controlled by the South Korean Armed Forces.
