The Louvre Museum of Art will file a lawsuit against a visitor who threw a cake at the Mona Lisa painting by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, Le Parisien newspaper reported.

The 24-year-old vandal is currently in a psychiatric hospital. Doctors are yet to determine whether, on medical grounds, his arrest is possible.

The incident became known on the morning of May 30. The attacker visited the art museum wearing a wig and in a wheelchair. In the beginning, he tried to break the bulletproof glass protecting the canvas, and then threw a cake at the picture and scattered rose petals on the floor. The man explained his act as an attempt to protect the world.

The Paris prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the incident.
