The US State Department has updated its Taiwan fact sheet to say it does not support the island's independence, Reuters reported.

Last month, the State Department changed the wording on its Taiwan website, removing language both rejecting Taiwan independence and acknowledging Beijing's position that Taiwan is part of China, drawing Beijing's ire.

Washington said the update does not reflect policy changes.

State Department spokesman Ned Price said in May that the United States does not support Taiwan independence.
