Republican US senators have introduced a bill designed to draw attention to Iran's ties to China and ban any dealings with Iran until Tehran cuts ties with Beijing and Hamas.
Senators Marco Rubio and Marsha Blackburn introduced the so-called "Iran China Accountability Act", which stipulates that Iran terminates all agreements related to the transfer of funds from China and ceases partnership with China in the field of strategic security and military affairs.
It also requires any nuclear deal with Iran to be ratified by a two-thirds vote of the US Senate.
The Obama-Biden deal with Iran has always been a failure. The Biden administration should not renegotiate a deal that legitimizes the Iranian regime, especially as long as it continues to fund terrorism, support the dangerous Communist Chinese government, and promote genocide, Blackburn said.
The lawmakers also recalled the $400 billion strategic economic agreement signed in March 2021 between Iran and China for a period of 25 years. They said the deal would bolster China's influence in the Middle East, adding that despite the international sanctions regime, Beijing remains Iran's biggest oil buyer.
