YEREVAN. – Head of Armenia’s Special Investigative Service Vahagn Harutyunyan met the journalists on Wednesday in connection to the March 1, 2008, case.
Harutyunyan reported about the results of investigation of the video from the Internet, which was done on June 30. The video shows a man in a uniform, who shot in Lusavorich-Paronyan crossroad. The expertise aimed to find out the caliber and the type of the weapon. According to the expertise, the weapon had similarities with AKSU gun intended to shoot with non fighting bullets. Thus, the man shot with allegedly empty bullets. However, the quality of the video does not allow approving the viewpoint.
The head of the investigative group told that 200 new witnesses were examined. Police officers who participated in the mass disorder prevention measures were double examined. Other high-ranking police officers were also examined. Regarding participation of the army, Harutyunyan stressed it was involved only after the state of emergency was declared.
After 2008 presidential elections, the opposition held all day rallies. Police officers violently dispersed the demonstrators on March 1 in 2008 in the Liberty Square. The same evening police used weapons to disperse the demonstrators gathered at the statue of Myasnikyan in Armenian capital. Ten people were killed. Yerevan held 20 days of state of emergency. Over one hundred opposition activists were arrested.
