The Thai Food and Drug Administration received more than 150,000 applications for cannabis cultivation permits on the day of the decriminalization of cannabis, according to the Bangkok Post.

The cannabis decriminalization law went into effect on June 9, 2022. Thailand became the first Asian country to allow the cultivation of its products for medical and commercial purposes.

However, smoking marijuana in public places is still illegal. The deputy chief of the national police said earlier that law enforcement officers will not arrest those who smoke cannabis at home.

After registering with the department, Thais will be able to grow cannabis at home. Despite legalization, citizens are required to obtain a permit before mixing extracts containing more than 0.2% THC, the active ingredient in cannabis.
