An explosion at a sodium bicarbonate plant in Fars Province in southeastern Iran has injured dozens of people, Mehr reported.

Fars Province Red Crescent managing director Hossein Darwishi said 72 people were injured in the explosion and nearby roads were closed due to the spread of poisonous gas from the blast.

The explosion was caused by a leak in one of the ammonia tanks of the sodium carbonate plant in Firuzabad city.

The victims were taken to the hospital and are being treated there, there were no fatalities.

Meanwhile, IRNA reports that the number of injured has increased to 112 people.
