Negotiations will begin as soon as Armenia sets up a commission to work on the peace agreement. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said this at the IX Global Baku Forum under the motto "Challenges to the Global World Order,” APA reports.

“When it comes to normalization process of relations with Armenia, starting to work on peace agreement was our proposal, it had been proposed by us. Armenia did not respond. Then we took another step and proposed five basic principles of international law—including mutual respect and recognition of the territorial integrity of the two countries, not to reciprocally present any territorial claims to each other—both now and in the future.

We are very glad to see that the Armenian government has accepted the five principles; it is a positive dynamic. But now we need practical application because we know from the discussions during the occupation that sometimes even the words spoken at a high level by the Armenian leadership did not make much sense. We need a step to be taken. Azerbaijan has already established its peace treaty commission, and we expect Armenia as well to take the same step. If this is done, or as soon as it is done, negotiations will begin," Aliyev said.
