The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed the Law on Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention), according to the website of the President of Ukraine.

"This is by far the most comprehensive international agreement in this domain, used as a basis for action by many countries in Europe and beyond its borders. Ratification of the Istanbul Convention will strengthen the legal protection of victims and their access to justice, will protect Ukrainian citizens who have suffered from violence—not only in Ukraine but also abroad. According to the law signed by the President, no ideology in Ukraine is recognized by the state as mandatory and is not subject to implementation. Ukraine will implement the Convention in accordance with the values, principles and norms established by the Constitution of Ukraine," the respective statement said.
