Iranian FM Ali Akbar Salehi dismissed press reports saying Iran’s Armed Forces Chief of Staff Hassan Firouzabadi made anti-Azerbaijani statements.

Iranian FM called the reports untrue, 1news.az reports referring to IRNA news agency.

“All the recent reports spread by press are groundless. Those who make such claims pursue different goals,” he said.

As reported earlier, Firouzabadi slammed Azerbaijani government for measures contradicting principles of Islam.

He warned Ilham Aliyev would face a dark future since people’s awakening cannot be suppressed.

Commenting on the remarks, spokesperson for Azerbaijani foreign ministry Elkhan Polukhov said Firouzabadi is a military, not a politician and should make military statements, not political ones.

Iran’s envoy in Azerbaijan was handed a note of protest in Baku on Thursday.
