The Labor Party of Great Britain intends to submit to the Government on Tuesday the issue of passing a new vote of no confidence in outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the vote may take place on Wednesday, Tuesday, the TV channel Sky News reported.

If a majority of MPs support the initiative, there is a possibility that it could lead to a new general election (UK parliamentary elections), the channel noted.

However, if the Conservative Party members pass a vote of no confidence in their own government, the party may lose its leading position in Parliament, and the next Prime Minister may become the leader of the opposition, according to Sky News.

Johnson, who became prime minister in 2019, announced Thursday that he is stepping down as prime minister and head of Britain's Conservative Party; he will serve until a new cabinet chief is appointed. However, many are calling for him to leave his post immediately and appoint a new leader in his place, without waiting for the party convention in the fall.
