Gergely Gulas, chief of staff to the Hungarian prime minister, said the government had declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, Reuters reported.

According to him, the authorities also introduced a ban on the export of energy sources and lifted years of restrictions on utility prices for households that use energy above average consumption. The Hungarian government also plans to increase coal production.

All these measures, he explained, are aimed to ensure the country's energy supply in winter.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto previously said that the country has significantly increased investment in the nuclear power plant project "Paks-2," and plans to lay the first concrete blocks this fall. He also noted that Hungarian authorities are looking for new safe routes for nuclear fuel from Russia.
