YEREVAN. - As of July 1, 2011 the number of detainees and convicts serving sentences in Armenian prisons made 4602, which is by 248 citizens fewer in relation to the same figure for the first half of 2010, the Deputy-General Prosecutor Aram Tamazyan told at an expanded meeting of Board of Prosecutor General’s Office on Friday.

According to him, 1062 people have been released from penitential institutions in the first half of 2011: 525 for full completion of sentence, 143 on parole, 22 forgiven, 107 change of restraint measure, 263 out of courtroom, 1due to health issues, 508 under amnesty, 33 due to change of confinement with public works.

15 convicts died in prisons of various illnesses in the first six months of 2011.
