Japan to separate its representation to NATO from the embassy in Belgium, raising its status

Japan will separate the representation to NATO from its embassy in Brussels, raising the status of the institution, Sankei reported.

According to the publication, about 796 billion yen ($5.8 million) will be allocated for this. Japan made this decision because of the unstable security situation in the world.

Japan's mission to NATO was opened in 2018. The functions of the permanent representative are performed by the Japanese ambassador to Belgium, the representative office itself is part of the embassy in Brussels, Kommersant reports.
