Russia's position at the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) did not allow the forum participants to reach consensus and adopt the final document, said US Special Representative for Nuclear Nonproliferation Adam Scheinman.

Russia is the reason we don't have a consensus today, he said.

According to the chairman of the conference, Gustavo Zlauvinen, the main reason for the absence of a final document was the fact that no compromise was found on the wording of. the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, as well as other nuclear facilities in Ukraine.

In turn, Andrei Belousov, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, said that the forum became a hostage of countries that poisoned discussions with political language on Ukraine and were determined to settle scores with Russia by raising questions that not directly related to the contract.

These states, namely Ukraine and the supporters of the Kyiv regime, bear full responsibility for the lack of a final positive result, he said.

Earlier, Zlauvinen announced that the conference ended without the adoption of a final document.

The Russian diplomat explained that in order to adopt the document, it was important to ensure a balance in taking into account the positions of states, but this was not achieved.

For the final document to be adopted, it had to be approved by 191 countries - all parties to the NPT.
