The armed forces of Greece carried out a provocation against Turkish military planes carrying out missions in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, using S-300 air defense systems, Anadolu Agency reports, citing the Turkish defense ministry.

"As reported by the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey, the incident took place on August 23, when the F-16 warplanes of the Turkish Air Force were flying in the international airspace of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean," the ministry said, adding that despite this provocation, the said  Turkish military aircraft completed its planned mission and returned safely to its base.

But the Greek ministry of defense has categorically denied Turkey's aforementioned statements, calling them myths and part of Turkey's failed attempts to create tension in the region.

According to Greek media, the incident took place on August 23 over the Aegean Sea, in the international airspace. Turkish warplanes entered Greek airspace to find out the location of S-300 air defense systems, but Greece intercepted their flight, preventing them from completing their aforementioned mission.
