The Iraqi Security Service took full control of the Republican Palace in Baghdad, using tear gas against supporters of Shiite politician Muqtada al-Sadr, Al-Arabiya TV channel reported. A curfew is imposed in Baghdad. As Al-Arabiya specifies, 35 demonstrators were wounded as a result of the use of smoke bombs and live ammunition by security forces. The Iraqi Security Service declared a curfew from 3:30 p.m. local time and called on protesters to leave the Green Zone.

"The security service is responsible for protecting state institutions, international missions, and public and private property. Peaceful protesters are dealt with in accordance with the constitution and laws," according to a statement from the security service.

After Shiite Imam Muqtada al-Sadr announced that he was resigning from politics "because of an unsolvable political impasse," hundreds of his supporters stormed Baghdad's "green zone.
