Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan briefed UN Assistant Secretary General Miroslav Jenca on the security issues in the region, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry informed NEWS.am.

Jenca's visit was viewed as a good opportunity to discuss the situation in the region, as well as the prospects for U.N. involvement in resolving the existing problems. During the meeting, the interlocutors also discussed regional and international agenda issues.

Mirzoyan presented Armenia's position which is committed to regional stability and peace. He stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be comprehensively and sustainably settled in the framework of the only format of the international community with a mediation mandate. I am talking in particular about the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Concerning the humanitarian problems in Nagorno-Karabakh after the 44-day war, the Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned, in particular, the need for the unimpeded participation of the relevant UN bodies. He also stressed the need for the return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians detained in Baku.
