I call on my fellow citizens to consolidate and act decisively to achieve the goals of the Resistance Movement, the foremost of which is the struggle for independence, said Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the parliamentary faction of the opposition "Armenia" bloc, former defense minister of Armenia and Karabakh, at the September 2 rally of the Resistance Movement on France Square in the center of Yerevan (PHOTOS).

According to him, a common and strong security system of both Armenian republics has been formed over the past decades. Armenia has been the guarantor of Karabakh's security, and Karabakh has stood guard over the borders of the entire Armenian Highlands.

"We have an obligation to stand up for the Karabakh people," Ohanyan stressed, accusing the current authorities of dividing the Armenian people.

The former defense minister also criticized a number of initiatives of the current government. They include the reduction of conscription terms, payments in exchange for exemption from military service (for 24 million drams-editor), as well as criminal prosecution of the generals who took part in the war. In Ohanyan's opinion, the authorities are thus trying to divert public attention from the really difficult problems and challenges facing the people.
