Attorney General of Belarus Andrei Shved said that 8,000 people would be amnestied, BelTA informs.

The Prosecutor General said that in 2019-2020, more than 30,000 Belarusians fell under the amnesty. Some had their sentences reduced by a year, while others were released from prison.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting on improving the legislation on citizenship and amnesty, explained that it "is permissible only for those who really deserve it."

He noted that among the convicts there are a variety of people: those who accidentally stumbled, committed crimes through negligence or minor crimes, including protest actions.
