The IAEA has published a report on the work of a delegation to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. According to RIA Novosti, the agency recorded damage to a special unit for storing radioactive waste and fresh nuclear fuel.

The IAEA urged to stop shelling the plant and its surroundings, as this may cause damage to important equipment and unrestricted release of radioactive materials. In this connection it is proposed to create a protective zone around the nuclear power plant. This will require the agreement of all parties, the report stresses.

The IAEA also called to guarantee the communication of ZNPP with all external organizations. In addition, it is necessary to ensure the supply chain for the safety of the plant.

Last week, an agency delegation led by Rafael Grossi visited the site, which has been under Russian military control since March. Rosatom representatives and ZNPP employees led the guests around the plant and showed signs of shelling.

Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, told RIA Novosti that two IAEA staff members will remain at ZNPP on a permanent basis.

Zaporizhzhia NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the city of Energodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity - the plant has six power units of one gigawatt each.
