Lusine Badalyan, MP from the ruling Civil Contract Party, said that medical workers in Armenia should undergo compulsory certification, today. Her remarks came during the discussion of the bill on amendments to the law "On Medical Care and Service to the Population" in the National Assembly.

The draft amendments, in particular, provide for preserving the jobs and salaries of medics who are absent due to certification within the framework of continuing medical education (CME).

The deputy noted that the need for amendments to the law is due to a number of appeals. As of today, health care workers are required to be certified, but many employers create problems.

"A health care worker on the job is forced to be absent in order to accumulate the required number of credits. At the same time, the new rules will only apply to those employees who have accumulated enough credits," Badalyan said.

After quite a long discussion, the legislative initiative received a positive conclusion of the parliamentary commission.
