Azerbaijan has released five Armenian detainees to Armenia—and without intermediaries. Toivo Klaar, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, wrote about this Thursday night on Twitter.

“Welcome news today regarding the release of five Armenian detainees by Azerbaijan following the meeting of the leaders in Brussels on 31/8. Important humanitarian gesture & likewise noteworthy that the handover took place without intermediaries,” Klaar wrote.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that on Thursday evening, Azerbaijan returned five Armenian prisoners of war to Armenia.
