The inflation on the consumer market of Armenia for 12 months (August 2022 vs. August 2021) was 9.1%, and compared to the previous month it was 0.2%. Inflation in January-August 2022 compared to the same period last year was 8.4%.

In August 2022, compared to the same month in 2021, the country recorded an increase in pork and beef prices by 2.3% and 21.4% respectively, and compared to July 2022 - 1.7% and 1.2%.

Against this background, the volume of pork imports to Armenia increased by 1.7 times. A certain growth (15%) was also recorded in terms of chicken imports. The volume of beef imports remained almost unchanged.

In particular, beef imports to Armenia in the first seven months of 2022 amounted to 1,180 tons worth over 4 million dollars. This figure for the same period last year was 1,200 tons worth $3.7 million.

Over 6.6 thousand tons of pork worth over $13.3 million were imported. During the first seven months of 2021, 3,882 tons worth $7.7 million were imported.

The volume of imported chicken was almost 20,000 tons to the amount of 27 million dollars. During the same period last year was imported 17,000 tons of chicken worth 17.5 million dollars. 

In the first half of 2022, the decline in Armenia's agro-industrial complex was 5.5%.

Experts say the reason is the ineffective implementation of government programs, while the authorities cite weather conditions, as well as explain the associated factors (rising prices on world markets, currency fluctuations and more).
