Mexico will submit a plan to the UN to end the war in Ukraine, said Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Reuters reported.

He said the plan includes the creation of a mediation committee that will include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Pope Francis.

According to Lopez Obrador's plan, the mediators would immediately begin negotiations with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine to achieve a truce for at least five years. Lopez Obrador that will present details of the plans in a speech celebrating Mexico's independence on Friday.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard is expected to present the peace plan at the annual U.N. General Assembly next week in New York.
