The Japanese government has protested to China over the passage of a Chinese naval ship through Japanese territorial waters near Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyodo News Agency reported.

According to Japan's Defense Ministry, a Chinese navy ship of the research class entered Japanese territorial waters around 7 am local time south of Yakushima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture. The ship left Japanese territorial waters at 10:52 local time.

The movement of the Chinese navy ship was monitored by a P-1 Japan Self-Defense Force patrol plane as well as an Inazuma-class destroyer.
