YEREVAN. - Armenian Ministry of Education and Science commented on the statement of Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan that the Ministry violates human rights.
“We regretfully admit that the statement of Ombudsman Karen Karapetyan, although very interesting, does not correspond to the reality and carries non-professional and reckless qualifications. We reiterate that the results of the competition for mathematics textbook of 5-6 grades have not been contested. Perhaps the Ombudsman’s office, not thoroughly going into the procedure and content, meant the competition for Algebra textbook for 7-9 grades, where the work of Russian professor Nikolski was selected,” says the statement.
According to Armenian Ministry of Education of Science regulations, a member of Russian Academy of Sciences cannot be a member of commission for selecting textbooks in Armenia.
”As citizens of Armenia, we express our concern with the estimates, recklessness and lack of professionalism of office of the Ombudsman of Armenia. We believe that the continuation of such behavior could jeopardize the formation and development of the whole concept of protection of human rights in our country. Office of the Ombudsman, we believe, should improve the quality of service that is based on the interests of all citizens of Armenia," reads the statements of Armenian Ministry of Education and Science.
