Poland has struck $3 billion deals with South Korea to buy 48 Korean FA-50 fighter jets.

Two deals to buy Fighting Falcon combat and training aircraft followed contracts signed last month for Poland to buy about $5.8 billion worth of South Korean tanks and howitzers, Reuters reported.

Polish President Andrzej Duda, who is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and South Korean Defense Minister Eom Dong Hwang attended the signing ceremony at a military airfield in Yanow, near the air force base.

The documents were signed by Polish Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, who is also defense minister, who handed them over to South Korean officials.

Under one of the agreements, worth about $700 million, the first 12 aircraft are to be delivered early in the second half of next year. The second deal, estimated at about $2.3 billion, calls for the delivery of 36 aircraft with technical and combat specifications specified by Poland between 2025 and 2028.

The deals include training, logistics and the transfer of some technology that will allow the aircraft to be serviced in Poland starting in 2026. Warsaw says this is one of Poland's largest and most important defense deals in recent years.
