At least ten people were killed and four, including two children, are missing because of heavy rains that hit the Marche region of Italy. At least 50 people were injured, the Italian daily La Repubblica reported.

Among the dead is a man who drowned in his car. In Barbara, an eight-year-old child, whose rescuers are searching for, slipped from his mother's arms, he was washed away by a torrent of water. According to some local publications, the child was later rescued by the fire department near the commune of Ostra.

The areas of Senigallia, in the provinces of Ancona and Pesaro e Urbino on the border with Umbria were hit hardest by the bad weather. The director of civil protection and territorial security for the region, Marche Stefano Stefani, said that in two to three hours, approximately 420 millimeters of rain fell, half of what falls in a year in the region. That said, the possibility that heavy rains will hit the region again in the near future is not ruled out.

In Senigallia, Ancona province, the Misa River began flooding, reaching its maximum limit late Thursday evening, September 15. Authorities have asked local residents to occupy the upper floors of houses, not to go outside and not to use cars. It is specified that now "the river is slowly receding." In turn, the municipality of Cantiano was isolated due to landslides, there are several houses for the elderly. In some areas of the region there is an unstable power supply, as well as problems with telephone lines. Classes have been cancelled in schools in the town of Barbara. More than 300 rescuers are working in Marka, and governors of neighboring regions have offered their assistance.
