The first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has arrived for the Czech Republic by sea at an LNG terminal in the Netherlands, Czech Radio reported, citing Roman Gazdik, spokesman for Czech energy company CEZ.
"The first batch of U.S. LNG for the Czech Republic was delivered by a tanker to a marine terminal in the Dutch city of Emshaven. A third of the capacity of this floating terminal was recently leased by the Czech Republic for 10 years through CEZ," Gazdik said.
According to him, by the end of 2022, seven more LNG tankers are expected to arrive at the marine terminal. The current tanker has delivered 100 million cubic meters of gas.
The publication added that the Czech Republic can store up to 3 billion cubic meters of LNG in the sea terminal Emshaven. This is about one third of the country's annual consumption.
