President Joe Biden believes the United States needs to "reevaluate" its relationship with Saudi Arabia, especially in light of the OPEC+ oil cartel's decision to cut production.

"I think the president’s been very clear that this is a relationship that we need to continue to reevaluate, that we need to be willing to revisit,” National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told CNN.

OPEC+ announced last week that it would significantly cut production to boost oil prices.

Kirby said Biden is "willing to work with Congress to think through what that relationship (with Saudi Arabia) ought to look like going forward.”

Senator Bob Menendez, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Monday urged the U.S. to "The United States must immediately freeze all aspects of our cooperation with Saudi Arabia, including any arms sales and security cooperation beyond what is absolutely necessary to defend US personnel and interests,” Menendez said.

Biden is ready to begin negotiations with Congress immediately, Kirby said.
