Taiwan is ready to continue strengthening ties with the U.S. to maintain peace and stability in the region, said the head of the island administration Tsai Ing-wen, receiving a delegation of U.S. congressmen, TASS reported.

She said the island's authorities are seeking to strengthen engagement with the United States and other democratic partners. Tsai Ing-wen called Taiwan and the United States important economic and security partners and thanked members of Congress for their efforts and legislative initiatives that help strengthen the island's defense capabilities.

The island's chief of staff expressed satisfaction at the imminent start of talks with Washington on the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative for Trade in the 21st Century.

The politician noted that the two sides also expect to sign a double taxation avoidance agreement, which also promotes investment opportunities.
