Saudi Arabia denies the political background of the OPEC+ agreement countries' decision to reduce oil production and its targeting of any states, the kingdom's foreign ministry said in a statement.

The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia completely denies these statements, which do not take the facts as a basis and rely on an attempt to present the OPEC+ decision as going beyond a purely economic framework. This decision has been unanimously adopted by all countries of the group... Postponing this decision by a month, suggested by the U.S., would have had negative economic consequences, the statement said.

At the same time, the kingdom's Foreign Ministry pointed to its support for resolutions on the situation in Ukraine and the principles at the core of the UN Charter on the sovereignty of countries.

Saudi Arabia views the relationship with Washington as a strategic one that serves the interests of both countries, the Foreign Ministry added.

Last week, states in the OPEC+ agreement decided to cut oil production by two million barrels starting in November, extending the deal until the end of 2023, a move that has displeased U.S. President Joe Biden, Washington said it wants to review its policy toward Saudi Arabia.
