The situation in the region is such that anything can happen despite last week's processes, including the Prague meeting, Iranian MP of Armenian descent Robert Beglaryan told NEWS.am.

Beglaryan assured that in recent months, Iran's attention to the South Caucasus, especially to the processes around Armenia, has been growing, so whatever domestic issues in Iran, they cannot distract attention from the region.

"The Armenian-Iranian parliament's friendship group recently visited Iran and meetings were held with the deputy chairman of the Committee on Security and International Relations.

Yesterday the Iranian Foreign Minister said Tehran is keeping a close eye on the processes and will not tolerate or allow any border or geopolitical changes in the region. This signal was sent to both Azerbaijan and Turkey.

According to my information, which comes from the parliament and other places, the protests in Iran are on the decline. Authorities have managed to control the situation in the cities where they take place," the MP added. 

During the 44-day war, Iran's spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a four-point statement.

"One of the points concerned the need to ensure the security of the Armenians of Karabakh. Iran's policy in this direction has not changed.

It was recently stated in the parliament that Iran does not accept any other changes than those specified in the statement of November 9, 2020, especially the presence of non-regional forces. This is not in the interest of Iran," Beglaryan stated.

The meeting of Russian, Turkish and Iranian leaders in Tehran in July this year, during which Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed Tehran's sensitivity and "red lines" in regard to Armenia and the unacceptability of border changes between Iran and Armenia, should also be recalled.
