The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan has called "prejudicial and unacceptable" the recent statements by French President Emmanuel Macron about the processes in South Caucasus and the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
" The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan considers the statements made by the French President in an interview on October 12, 2022 unacceptable, one-sided, in which the open support for Armenia is expressed. The MFA also categorically denies the baseless statements of the French President regarding Azerbaijan," reads the respective statement by the Azerbaijani foreign ministry.
"Azerbaijan does not refuse France's mediation regarding the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan. On the initiative of Macron, meetings were held in that regard on February 4, 2022 and October 6, 2022. But the statements made by the French president to Azerbaijan seriously question his neutrality and impartiality as a mediator," the statement added.
At the same time, the statement notes tactlessly that "in the context of Azerbaijan's attempts to ensure peace, stability and development in the region, France's one-sided position and groundless accusations [toward Baku] force Azerbaijan to once again reconsider France's mediation efforts."
