India will continue its efforts for the return of Kohinoor diamond, said Arindam Bagchi, the country's foreign ministry spokesman, PTI news agency reported.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the issue of the return of one of the world's largest diamonds has regained urgency.

"As far as I understand, the Indian government responded to this in Parliament several years ago. We have said that we have raised the issue with the British government from time to time and we will continue to explore ways and means of getting a satisfactory resolution to the issue," Bagchi said.

One of the largest diamonds in the world, the 108-carat Kohinoor gemstone was given to Queen Victoria in 1849. The Kohinoor, or mountain of light, is now embedded in the Maltese cross on the crown made for the late British Queen Elizabeth II.
