Taiwan does not intend to make concessions on issues that concern its sovereignty, freedom and commitment to democratic values, said official spokesman of the Taipei administration Zhang Dunhan, TASS reported.

He commented on remarks by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping at the opening of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China about the prospects for reunification with the island. He stated China's determination to oppose Taiwan's independence.

As Zhang Dunhan noted, Taipei's position is very firm. According to him, the people of Taiwan are unanimous in saying that concessions on sovereignty, democracy and freedom cannot be made.

As a Taipei official pointed out, the island assumes that confrontation is not an option for either side of the Strait.

According to him, the islanders consider the one country, two systems formula proposed by Beijing unacceptable. He called Taiwan a sovereign and independent country.
