A criminal case will be initiated against judge of Yerevan Court of General jurisdiction Arusyak Aleksanyan, the Supreme Judicial Council informed NEWS.am.

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) also granted Aleksanyan's request for arrest.

As previously reported, today, National Security Service officers detained lawyer Erik Aleksanyan in the courtroom of Yerevan Ajapnyak Court of Common Pleas. The lawyer involved in the high-profile case is accused of abuse of power or exceeding his authority. Arusyak Aleksanyan, a judge of the Achapnyak district, is also involved in the proceedings.

According to media reports, both the lawyer and the judge are accused of taking a bribe in the "thief in law" case.
