The Greek Armed Forces have enough deterrent power to effectively respond to any provocation by Turkey. Greek government spokesman Ioannis Ikonomou said this at a briefing, TASS reported.

Asked whether Greece was concerned about Turkey's ballistic missile development and various reports in the neighboring country's media about nuclear ambitions and the development of nuclear warheads in Turkey, he said Greece had taken care to increase the deterrent power of its armed forces. 

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed Oct. 21 that Turkey has a new Typhoon ballistic missile, which was secretly tested Oct. 18 on the Black Sea coast. The missile successfully hit its target at a distance of 561 kilometers in 458 seconds.

On September 6, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias recalled Turkish claims that the islands in the Aegean Sea are occupied by the Greeks and the Turks may suddenly come at night and invade these islands.

According to Dendias, opposite the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea there is the biggest landing fleet in Europe and an entire Turkish army deployed on the Turkish side. The foreign minister stressed that Greece has enough forces to defend its territorial integrity against Turkish threats.
