The new Serbian government plans to invest 12 billion euros in energy projects, including oil and gas pipelines and increase in production capacity, Prime Minister-designate Ana Brnabic announced.

Energy and a new energy policy will be an absolute priority, Brnabic said during an address to parliament to garner support for a third term as prime minister.

The country imports electricity and relies heavily on gas supplies from Russia via Turkey and oil via Croatia.

Brnabic said the new government will diversify its options by completing a gas line with Bulgaria to allow it to connect to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Greece.

The new government will also increase hydropower capacity and focus on building an oil pipeline to Hungary, she said.

Parliament, in which the ruling party has 120 of 250 seats, will vote after debate, on Wednesday, and is expected to confirm Brnabic as prime minister.
