The first committee of the UN General Assembly voted in favor of Israel getting rid of all nuclear weapons and placing all nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Jpost reported.
The resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority of 152 votes, with only the United States, Canada, Israel, Micronesia, and Palau voting against it. The European Union and 23 other countries abstained.
Although it was officially a resolution on the risk of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East, it focused mainly on Israel without mentioning Iran.
Israel has never even acknowledged that it possesses nuclear weapons, although it is widely believed that it does. The resolution mentions that Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
