A Russian analyst described the fate of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians in the event of the signing of the Western version of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty.

"If we look at the Western proposals, they imply one clear thing regarding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh: the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan and the de facto dissolution of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic," political scientist Fyodor Voytolovsky told to a press conference Wednesday.

In his view, Russia, on the other hand, deals with the issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh with great understanding and flexibility, realizing that the transfer of Karabakh to the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan will mean the actual mass emigration of Armenian residents from there and the disappearance of this unrecognized republic which has been fighting for existence for many decades.

"This, of course, will affect the internal situation of Armenia and the development of the country and the region as a whole.

There is a quick solution—but definitely with the transfer of Nagorno-Karabakh to the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan. This is a way that Russia does not support. The other way is more complicated, which requires delicate work, but which is supported by the Russian side. It is to take into account the survival security requirements of all parties. Priority attention to the interests of the residents and the security of Nagorno-Karabakh. This position is closer to both Russia and Armenia, which requires meaningful, gradual advancement," Voytolovsky stressed.
